Free Healthcare for the Working Uninsured

Published May 15, 2008

The following was submitted by Diane E. Crown, MSW, MBA, Executive Director of HealthLink Medical Center.

Did you know that over 47 million Americans do not have health insurance? Eighty percent of the uninsured population are from working families, and 20 percent are children. The stark reality of our healthcare system has become a public health crisis. Many families cannot afford health insurance or do not have access to adequate healthcare, resulting in a downward spiral of health and social issues.

HealthLink is a non-profit, free primary medical and dental clinic providing care to the working uninsured in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Free care is provided by experienced and caring volunteer health professionals. Whenever possible, HealthLink provides free prescription drugs to patients requiring pharmaceutical intervention. Health education is also provided to enable patients to make choices that create healthy lifestyles.

Substance abuse is a disease that effects a person physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. At HealthLink, we can be one of the community resources along the path to a physically healthy recovery.
